John Carroll

John Carroll is in his 26th year as Associate Band Director at Permian HS and is in his 44th year as a proud Texas band director. Bands under his direction have been consistent Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL) Sweepstakes award winners and have won several festival awards. He is the conductor of the Concert Band 1, as well as the Black Cat Jazz Ensemble. Carroll also is the percussion specialist at Permian High School. During his tenure at Permian, the marching drum line has won numerous drum line championships and caption awards at marching band competitions. The Permian Percussion Project made its second appearance at the Sandy Feldstein National Percussion Festival in 2019. The group is consistent winners of “Superior” ratings at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest and produces an annual “Night of Percussion” concert at Permian HS. It has been recognized as both a Commended Winner and a National Winner in the Foundation for Music Education annual competition. Since Mr. Carroll has been teaching at Permian, there have been numerous students to attain the level of Texas All-State Percussion. Carroll has been the recipient of the Marcia Zoffuto Hero Award (named after the famed band director, who herself grew up at Permian HS) and the 2018 Permian HS Outstanding Master Teacher of the Year Award. John Carroll is currently President-Elect of the Texas Music Educators Association after serving as TMEA Vice President and State Band Chair.
